Day 3 – Get in Free Before 11 a.m.

Hard to believe it is the last day of the Festival for 2009. Bring the whole family Sunday and get in free before 11 am for various Sunday Services. Be sure to bring a non-perishable food item and help out the Dublin Food Pantry.

After the services, grab some breakfast/lunch and watch the Young Dubliners at 12:30 pm. Don’t forget about the Irish Contests at the Wendy’s Wee Folk Area at 3:30 pm. And of course the Festival Finale at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Dublin Stage at 8:30 pm.

Hope you have a great day today at the Dublin Irish Festival!

  1. I’ve been attending the festival nearly every year since its beginning. The past couple of years the people in charge of running the sound systems for the larger band venues insist upon cranking up the sound to intolerable levels even at the afternoon shows. I asked one of them if that level of sound was really necessary since it was hurting my ears and had to be hurting other peoples’. He just laughed and said he couldn’t do anything about it.

I cannot subject my kids to these sound levels nor myself. If anyone were required to endure this noise at a workplace you can bet that OSHA would be called in! Yet we insanely subject ourselves to this voluntarily, pretending we enjoy it. This kind of mentality is common with high school kids attending rock concerts. It has no place in a cultural event for families. You seem so concerned with the environment with all of the recycling bins. Maybe you should pay more attention to the environmental damage of noise pollution. Louder is not necessarily better!

I was once again disappointed when I encountered this problem yesterday. Unless something changes, I won’t be attending again.

  2. The traditional Irish Mass has been a special feature of the festival each year, but the Christian rock event was loud and obnoxious!! You obviously gave into pressure from some local evangelical group to allow them to hold a service, but couldn’t you at least have them keep the volume down????
